Unity is strength – and a delicious cocktail too! Pedro Cellia da cachaça Princesa Isabel goes to Aiuruoca, Minas Gerais, to prepare his version of a Paraty classic, the Jorge Amado cocktail.
Jorge Amado's original recipe uses the typical brandy from Paraty called Gabriela Cravo e Canela, but for this version Pedro used the Tiê Cinnamon from Aiuruoca producers.
The historic center of Paraty was the setting for the recording of the soap opera based on the work of Jorge Amado, Gabriela clove and cinnamon.
To thank Sônia Braga and the entire production team for the season, which contributes to promoting Paraty as a tourist destination, the city's producers created a recipe that uses cachaça, some sugar base (such as molasses or sugar syrup) and, of course, Clove and Cinnamon. The drink was named Gabriela and is today produced by practically all producers in Paraty.
Paraty's tributes don't stop there. Bartender Camila Paiva and Caju, owner of the Terra do Fogo restaurant, developed a cocktail recipe called Jorge Amado that uses Gabriela Cravo and Canela brandy. In 2014, the cocktail became official in the city when Camila won the Paraty Cachaça Cocktail Championship, held by the Association of Producers and Friends of Cachaça de Paraty (Apacap).
